Tourism makes us better people

Interpreting the results of a global TripAdvisor survey on travel psychology, one could say that tourism makes Greeks who travel… better people. The survey, which explores how travel changes people’s behavior internationally and by nationality, is more relevant than ever today as we celebrate World Tourism Day.
One of the key findings for Greeks is that 50% tend to be more tolerant of others upon returning from vacation. The corresponding percentage for international travelers is 45%. Additionally, 40% of Greeks tend to explore their city more upon returning, compared to 35% of international travelers. Furthermore, 25% of Greeks tend to learn a new language or skill compared to 37% of international travelers. Nineteen percent of Greeks focus on relationships compared to 23% of international travelers.
Moreover, 38% of travelers worldwide, including 30% of Greeks, enrich their daily diet with new flavors they try on their travels. Additionally, 5% of travelers worldwide and Greeks said that a trip encouraged them to get engaged or married.

Contrary to common belief, international travelers are nine times more likely to seek unique experiences compared to relaxation experiences.

But what motivates residents of different continents to travel? According to the survey results, Europeans want to boast about their enviable experiences, Asians truly love thrilling experiences, travelers from the Middle East seek the experience of getting to know local culture, and Australians seek memorable experiences. North American travelers visit their relatives, Latin Americans travel to make new acquaintances, and Africans seek special treatment and want to feel unique.

Sixty-six percent of international travelers are encouraged to plan another trip after returning from vacation, with the USA ranking first. Travelers most likely to plan their next trip immediately after returning are 85% of Brazilians, 84% of Australians, and 79% of Britons. Fifty-four percent of international tourists are excited when making a booking. On the side of tourism businesses, only 16% try to create the feeling that the vacation has started, and only 27% make travel suggestions before arrival..
